Christine has always loved the art of mixing old and new. Worn heart pine floors, soaring ceilings and faded oriental rugs were elements of a childhood home that introduced period antiques and beautifully appointed upholstery to her appreciation of excellent design.
Her love of interiors drew her to study fine art at Auburn University and then in Florence, Italy. While in Florence, Christine was influenced by classical architecture, and the flair and distinction of European style. She was moved by the feel of old streets, distressed paint on the corner of a building, afternoon light and unexpected color. Extensive traveling has led Christine to incorporate both new design philosophies and cultural art forms into her interpretation of client spaces.
Upon graduation, Mills apprenticed with Athens-based designer Andrew Downs before joining Hawthorne House Antiques. In spring of 2005, she established Christine Mills Interiors, and her company practices residential design in the Athens area.
For Christine, the most rewarding moment with a client is when they recognize what is truly possible in their space. Her passion is to create fresh, beautiful living spaces. The core of her designs is built on classic, tailored and appropriate principles, but she loves the surprise of whimsy or the unexpected modern element. She believes in creative collaboration with local artisans and incorporates their containers, lamps and other custom pieces into her designs. Christine considers her projects completed when anything more is too much, and anything less is wanting.
Captivated by European antiques, original art and handmade custom pieces, Christine seeks to incorporate fine craftsmanship and detail into every design.
